PARANORMAL MELON-E. (the true story behind the song)

Encounter of the ghost of Melanie...

Ken (our bass player) was traveling in Western Pennsylvania on a desolate road in the middle of Winter around 2:00 am and it was very cold out (he was driving his drunk buddy home) when he came around a bend to see a beautiful young black-haired woman in the middle of the road waving him down. He had to swerve to avoid hitting her. He stopped and she came to the door and asked for a ride.

She stated that she came from a place that was 10 miles away (according to Ken's drunk buddy, who knew the area like the back of his hand). Ken agreed to give her a ride but she asked to get out a half of mile down the road. It was at an intersection that was in the middle of nowhere. No houses, just fields glowing in the full moon night. Ken asked her if she was sure she wanted to get out there and she insisted that she did.

Legend revealed...

Ken started to tell his son the next morning of this strange event. But before he could finish his son asked, "Was her name Melanie? Was it on Reimer Road? Was it a full moon? Did you give her a ride?"

Then he proceeded to tell Ken of the legend of Melanie:

Way back a young girl (around 20 years old) named Melanie was raped, beaten and left to die on that road during a full moon night. She tried to beg a ride but no one gave her a ride and she died there. So it was said that her ghost comes back to haunt the road on a full moon night and if you do not give her a ride, a bad thing will come to you.

lyrics

Driving in the dark on a full moon night
Western Pennsylvania in the pre-twilight
I see a dark-haired girl and I catch a fright
In the cold of the winter she’s a lonely sight

Reimer Road is lifeless like no-man's land
A woman in distress is waving her hands
This is something that I can’t comprehend
20 miles from nowhere with my drunk friend

Said she'd been walking for a very long time
And asked politely "May I please have a ride?"

Without reason and without rhyme
Paranormal Melanie climbed inside

Paranormal Melanie...a mystery is calling me
Paranormal Melanie...she came to me so eerily
Paranormal Melanie...she needs a ride so desperately
Paranormal Melanie...or damned is thee for passing she

As legend claims it is right where she died
For a little dead girl she seemed so alive
Like an eerie melody that moans and whines
A distant deja vu that transcends time

One half of a mile was the whole damn ride
By Nowheresville at the cold roadside
Apparition from a sad tragic end
Raped and freezing with out a friend

No one helped her when she was alive
So her spirit stayed on after she died

Without reason and without rhyme
Paranormal Melanie climbed inside

Paranormal Melanie...a mystery is calling me
Paranormal Melanie...she came to me so eerily
Paranormal Melanie...she needs a ride so desperately
Paranormal Melanie...or damned is thee for passing she

(I see dead people...they're here...)
